WINNERS ALL RIGHT AT FEILE 2018   08/05/2018

The first ever St Catherines football team competed in Div 4 over the weekend. On a beautiful Saturday in Westmanstown after welcoming speeches by both Chairmen and a rendition of the National Anthem the games began. In a tough opening game against Kilmacud Crokes the lads battled bravely but conceded two goals in a three minute spell and lost by 0-07 to 2-06.Next up was Erin's Isle and another tremendous tussle ensued.Heat was taking a toll on both sides and scores were hard earned but the lads eventually won out by 1-07 to 2-02.So a winner take all game against Oliver Plunketts ensued in which after a tight first half the boys won well by 4-11 to 1-07.Unfortunately the powerful running of Bryan Lydon was lost due to injury for the semi final.

We moved to Balbriggan for a semi final showdown with another premier club Ballymun Kickhams. After a good start we moved into a 1-03 to 0-01 lead but Ballymun stormed back to lead at the break by 2-02 to 1-04.The second half began well and we went into a 2-05 to 2-04 lead with five minutes left.In a barnstorming finish Ballymun laid siege to our goal but valiant defending kept them at bay for a deserved win and another crack at Kilmacud in the Final.

Another scorcher on Sunday at a well presented St Peregrines ground and Kilmacud awaited.A well contested first half saw us down a point at half time 0-03 to 0-04 but a powerful display in the second

period was too much for the Stillorgan lads and honours deservedly went to the Dublin 15 outfit.Top displays from Sam McGrath in goal,Bryan Lydon,James Mitten and Keelan Cosgrave in defence,Gavin Curtis and Liam Garrigan in midfield,Glen Campion and Darren Daly in attack along with all 21 fit of 22 players did the club proud.Great turnout from club and family members in support who cheered and clapped loudly enough to be heard in Croker to make great memories.
